‘Reflection’ means ‘to seriously think or consider something.’ ‘Self reflection’ is looking at ourselves in the mirror and describing what we see.

Learning is part of life. Whether we think about it or not, we are constantly evolving to learn new skills. This could be starting a new job, attending a course, becoming a parent, cooking a new recipe, even travelling. We are always learning something new and now more than ever.

The Coronavirus has turned our lives upside down and we are all figuring out and learning how to adjust.

Without even realising, we are all probably thinking in a more reflective way  – I am sure many of us have thought ‘When this is all over I will…’ or ‘I want to make more time to…’

Self reflection is one of the most important parts of the learning process and this difficult situation is giving some of us a lot more time to think about ourselves. We may be questioning ‘who am I, could I have handled a situation differently, what do I want to change‘. To reflect back on our words and thoughts each day is a powerful process – this includes the positive parts of the day, as we tend to focus on the negatives.

Self reflection can help us to:

  • Think of new ideas
  • Become more open minded
  • Make better decisions
  • Learn from past mistakes
  • React differently to a situation
  • Celebrate your successes, no matter how small
  • Improve your self confidence by increasing knowledge about yourself.

Take time in the evenings to think back about the day’s events during these uncertain times. It sounds simple, but it’s a really powerful process and it may help during this crisis.

Reflecting brings a huge sense of self awareness to become an even better version of ourselves.
