Learning is part of life. Whether we think about it or not, we are constantly evolving to learn new skills. This could be starting a new job, attending a course, becoming a parent, cooking a new recipe or travelling. We are always learning something new.

Self reflection is one of the most important parts of the learning process and usually, if we don’t re-think or reflect on something, then it is not easily retained. Reflecting has never been so important, especially as we start to come out of the Covid pandemic.

We are generally quite good at giving people advice on what they should do or how they could handle a situation, but do we ever stop and think about how we can actually help ourselves in this way?

A way to really grow and improve personally is to think about what went well in your day, what you could have handled better and what you would do differently next time. It also allows us to remember all of the good parts too, as sometimes we just focus on the negatives.

It helps you to understand what has happened throughout the day from a different perspective, with a clearer mind. Would you have made any changes?

Reflecting brings a huge sense of self awareness to become even better versions of ourselves.

Reflecting can help us to:

  • Learn from past mistakes
  • Celebrate your successes, no matter how small
  • Improve your self confidence by increasing knowledge about yourself
  • Become more open minded
  • Think of new ideas
  • Make better decisions

So many of us are on autopilot throughout life, doing the same things over and over again and often wonder why things don’t change.

Take time in the evenings to think back about the day’s events – the good, the bad and the ugly.  It sounds simple, but it is a really powerful process.

  10. Work is like holding a cup of water. When you first pick it up, it’s not heavy and easily done. If you hold onto it longer it’s starts to feel heavier. At some point it’ll become uncomfortably heavy at potentially painful. Remember to put work down regularly !
